You’re invited to join us in a new chapter.
But before that, some history...
Gitcoin is founded
We started with the goal of supporting the development of open source projects and monetizing open source software through bounties.
Quadratic Funding Paper Published
Vitalik published his seminal paper on Quadratic Funding, a novel mechanism for democratically allocating philanthropic funds. What’s Quadratic Funding? ↗
Gitcoin Grants Program Launched
Gitcoin Grants became the first implementation of Quadratic Funding to maximize impact, and has funded many boundary-pushing projects since.
Electronic Frontier FoundatioN
To date, Gitcoin Grants has generated $50+ million of funding.
Now, we’re leveling up with scalable solutions empowering communities to...
fund what matters
From April 2023, we’ll be running our grants program exclusively on...
Built with Gitcoin’s open-source funding allocation protocol, Allo Protocol, and integrated with Gitcoin Passport for enhanced fraud prevention.
Use our protocols and explore integration opportunities:
Technically you can run one right now (though, not autonomously yet)! If you are interested in running your own QF-enabled grants round, please get in touch with our team.
It generally takes a minimum of 2 to 4 weeks to launch a round and get the live voting process started.
If you’re interested in running a QF-enabled round without our assistance, you'll be able to after we launch our open beta of Grants Stack in early Q2.
Soon™ - We are exploring options to accelerate this work. Stay updated on upcoming feature releases by subscribing to updates.
We’re currently in the process of finishing up all of our developer docs for Allo. Before we allow any devs to unleash its power, we're working on completing a full audit of our core contracts. If you want to be the first to know when you can start to build, subscribe for updates.
Gitcoin Grants isn’t going anywhere! Gitcoin Grantees are at the epicenter of Gitcoin. We just finished running a series of scaled-down test grants rounds (the Gitcoin Alpha Rounds) on Grants Stack and will be running the Gitcoin Beta Rounds April 25-May 9. The new program format will feature Gitcoin Core Rounds, voted on by our community, and Featured Rounds, partner rounds running in parallel—see more info on the new Gitcoin Grants Program structure. Any organization interested in running a Featured Round, please be in touch with our partnerships team. To be kept in the loop on details and dates, also make sure to fill out the form.
We will be sunsetting our old platform sometime in Q3. Past grantees will be notified several times prior to us fully sunsetting their old profiles. We’re also exploring a Github Auth`d API endpoint to enable people to mint a VC for their project.
Make sure to fill out the form below to get any updates around this sent directly to your inbox. We also recommend taking some time to set up your new profile on the Grants Stack–Builder dApp (formally known as Grants Hub, currently still in beta).
There are a few ways to get involved:
Gitcoin is partnering with Metalabel on an open-edition record (a new kind of digital collectible format) celebrating Quadratic Funding and raising funds for public goods.
"All in all, Gitcoin Grants is establishing itself as a significant pillar of the Ethereum ecosystem that more and more projects are relying on for some or all of their support."
